The new rates are 4€ for those staying in 5-star hotels, 3€ for mid-range accommodation, 2€ for cruise passengers and cheaper hotels and apartments, and 1€ per person per day for campers and hostel guests.
Those under the age of 16 are exempt.
During the winter months of November to April, rates will be reduced – yet another reason to experience the beauty of Majorca in the quieter low season.
And what about holiday rentals?
In theory, all vacationers have to pay the tourist tax even though they are renting private holiday apartments. However, many holiday apartments are still not officialy registered as such. The Government of the Balearic Islands is starting to stricktly control this grey zone area and the fines are increasing.
The Balearic Ministry of Tourism is running a website in Spanish, Catalan, German, and English, which provides valuable information about Majorca’s Tourist Tax (www.illessostenibles.travel).
